Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion. Today we talk about poverty.

This year is set to be the worst in a long time for food banks and shelters across the country. A fine line separates most of the haves and haves-nots. I would like to encourage anyone willing and able to donate something.

Time

Spend a little time helping a neighbor or friend who is less fortunate. Donate an afternoon or morning at a food shelter or food bank. Not everyone has time, which leads me to money.

Money

Give what you can. I am sure there is no shortage of places seeking gifts during the winter months. If you really don’t know where you can give start with your local Salvation Army, Good Will or homeless shelter.

Influence

So many times a lot can be accomplished in a short time just by asking the right people. People in general are willing and compassionate but sometimes just need a little spark to get motivated. Be that spark.

I don’t think there is a good enough excuse to see your way out of donating something, be it time, money or influence. I would like to encourage you to do what you can to help those who need a hand.

I look forward to making a difference but sometimes I need a kick in the pants to focus. Use this opportunity to make a difference.
