Great video post Josh. My business partner always said, "you don't get what you don't ask for." You have to be comfortable asking for what you're worth, not what price you think your potential client will pay. If the client says no, you are always in a good position to ask them what seems like a fair price.Unrelated... I tried connecting via FB Connect and got an error, it can't find your xd_receiver.htm file. It is either not uploaded or in the wrong directory.

I will agree with Sire in the fact that the only value that anything has it what others are willing to pay for it. For example, I laugh so hard at people and the spit hits them in the face when they tell me they are in possession of something of great value like a baseball card or something. I say BS on the value. Sell it and prove it to me. Your video reminded me of an old poem and I can't remember the details but it was along the lines of I asked life for a penny and life gave me a penny, I wished I had asked for more. This was a very good and inspirational video. The higher that you value yourself, the higher value you are perceived. Like you said, people will pay to make the pain go away. Be the one who make it all feel better and charge accordingly.

First anyone has to know exactly what they want, then find a way to get it. It's very possible in a short amount of time to make huge leaps in anything if you know exactly what you want (money, relationships, skills and so on).

If your goal is to make $100 per hour flipping burgers that is going to be tough, but is it possible, you bet, ask any owner of a State Fair concession stand. Your precise goal will rarely fall out of line with what is actually obtainable, otherwise it probably isn't precise.

Where there is a will, there is a way. And to a large part that is true. People wont be willing to continually do something unless they believe there is a way. Thus the reason they stick with it. To do anything to the contrary would be the definition of insanity.

Actually I will disagree, the true value of anything is not what the seller thinks it's worth but what the buyer wishes to pay for it. I may have a house or a business that I thinks is worth a million dollars, but if all I can get for it is half a million then at the time of sale that is it's true worth.

You can hang out for $20 per hour but if someone is only willing to pay 10 bucks and you need the money then you take what you're offered.

True, but let's just remember you can put whatever worth you want on your ability to provide a service but if no-one is willing to pay that then you have no choice but to lower what you are asking. Unless people are clamoring for your services you are somewhat limited to what you can ask for.

I agree with your statement, but you will not easily earn $20 per hour if you don't believe you are worth that. I think the biggest difference is comparing inanimate objects to animate objects. A house is a house and will only be sold for what someone is willing to pay for it. But a person has so many more dimensions. If a person can get over the hurdle of their own perceived value then a world of opportunities opens up for them. Rarely does a house stand the test of time, unless we are talking about the pyramids. A person's contributions on the other hand, can live thousands of years beyond.

Seriously inspiring video Josh. When we talked the other night, you really taught me about this concept of basically "naming your own price" knowing what you have to offer. I like that man.
Now I just need to get out and network!
AL

Awesome post! I have my goal set for 2010, and I am putting massive time pressure on myself to get real results. Thanks for the inspiration here, Josh. It meshes perfectly with what I am trying to achieve.....

Networking is a big piece to the puzzle. Gotta be in front of people in order to get those first clients. Then your actions should speak for themselves. Then let the referrals begin :)
