I think it is all about creating a balance for your readers. If the content is quality an occasional ad, will not bother readers.

On low traffic new sites (specifically blogs), I like to start with Adsense as well. Also as Stefan mentioned, I like to use text based links for recommendations on sites that have higher traffic.

Stefan, I am referring to a new blog with little or no traffic. But if your blog is getting regular readers, I would add the ads slowly. And I would make sure it doesn't obstruct the readers from reading the blog's content.

I currently have no ads on my personal blog and will probably keep it so for a few more months. With that said I do make money through affiliate marketing by recommending hosting I like.

If you decide to follow me I recommend you to add one ad at a time. By doing so and integrating your ads nicely no one of your followers will complain. If you on the other hand fill your site with ads on a particularly day some of your readers will probably leave.
