On the radio I overhead McDonald’s advertising free coffee Mondays where you can drive through or stop by their store for a free sample of McDonald’s coffee. I for one think this is BRILLIANT! First off, I love coffee and especially FREE coffee. Next, they are getting droves of new people to try their coffee in hopes of converting them to long-time McDonald’s coffee drinkers. Finally, I am sure sales will go through the roof of additional items like breakfast sandwiches and burgers as the people who get their free coffee realize how hungry they are too.
Unlike Starbucks, McDonald’s has more to offer on their menu in addition to coffee like hamburgers and fries. Although McDonald’s isn’t providing as many coffee options or varieties, I am sure the masses of people only drink a few select options to begin with.
My question to you is: are they trying to convert coffee drinkers to the McDonald’s brand, or are they trying to convert non-coffee-drinking McDonald’s patrons into coffee drinkers? I have to imagine it is a bit of both. I have a feeling the profit margins on coffee is high and can be a great addition to the McDonald’s bottom line.

I have seen this practiced before within blogs. Basically, they write a free e-book full of backlinks. Seems like alot of big-time blogs are doing this with great effect.
Interesting post above! not sure how it relates to mcdonald's promotion. as for the coffee idea, is good but.. they will lose money by increasing the price of the dollar value meals as raised it to $ 1.19! Just enough to make people go to Burger King as they have the whopper junior for a buck! Go Burger King,lol..

I love the idea of Free Coffee Mondays. Unfortunately, I'm always running too late for work to stop and get mine.
I am a huge fan of Cafe Mocha; it's $1 cheaper than Starbucks and it's very difficult to tell the difference.
Looking forward to have this kind of promo in the Philippines! ^_^
I think they are trying to use Starbuck's strategy and Krispy Kreme's strategy all together.
It's working obviously because I do enjoy Mickey D's iced coffee these days, it's one of the better fast food coffee.
It probably is a little bit of both – definitely makes me glad I work from home though, where the coffee supply is seemingly endless, and pretty close to "free"

I think this is a great tactic to help get some new customers. It may influence the normal coffee shop go-ers to try out McDonalds for a change. Who knows, they might even end up liking the coffee and come back since the price is lower. A McDonalds near my house had free breakfast on Wednesday, a yearly tradition. People literally stood outside for an hour to get there meals. Not only was it on the news, but I am sure McDonalds sold a few things they normally wouldn't have as a result of it.

If coffee is free on Monday at MC, i would love to seat whole day there and will complete work from there.
This promotion is a farce. I heard it advertised over the weekend so this morning on my drive to work I stoped at a McDonalds to try the coffee and I figured since I was there I was going to order a egg mcmuffin. Well , the long and short of it is that I went thru the drive thru at 6:38 AM , and I was informed that the promo is from 7AM -10 AM only! What a crock, they should inform people of this in their comercials so that we won't wast our time! (Not to mention that alot of folks leave their homes in the morning before 7AM) I for one cancelled the sandwitch and left McDonalds to continue in to work, were I had my free coffee and some oatmeal.
@Baltic, that is kinda of a joke, I am disappointing they would do that.;
Everybody loves the taste of mcdonald fries. In fact, there comes a time when I would crave the flavor of some of those golden spuds in the middle of the night while passing by the left overs in the fridge. I'm not sure if this is a site to give comments, or shed some ideas for promotions, but I am going to add my 2 cents in anyways. I would like to go to the grocery store and purchase a pack of Mcdonald fries in the frozen section, that I may store in my freezer and rip open whenever I get the craving. If you do have special way of making the fries taste the way they do, you should market that very same taste at the grocery stores. The same way that TGIF does. Just Imagine " Mcdonalds fries. The same drive through flavor right out of the freezor."
I have gone to several McDonalds in North Sacramento areas and NONE are doing this. I drive up and ask on Monday morning only to be told they are not doing this. I then drive away without purchasing it. I don't think it should be advertised if it is not nation wide! Very disappointed with this and the Denny free breakfast. For those that work these mean nothing!
