I have been seeing a lot of searches landing on my blog for Halloween Marketing Ideas and really wonder what people are tying to marketing on Halloween (or there about).
Here are a few of my Halloween Marketing Ideas for various industries:
Gas Station
I would hold a costume contest every day of Halloween week, where the winner gets a free tank of gas.
Restaurant
I would dress up the host or hostess in the scariest costume imaginable and have him or her jump out at everyone as they came in.
Grocery store
Hold a contest to see who can come up with the most creative costume from things within the store to be judged by patrons and awarded a store coupon.
Retail Stores
Put out a call for anyone willing to wear a gorilla or other animal suit to browse the store like a typical casual customer for the week (bunches of them).
All of the above and more
Give away lots of candy, and the big king-sized bars while you are at it. Kids love to talk about the mass score they got at one house or business over another.
These ideas are to get people to talk about your business. I don’t think Halloween is as marketed as Christmas, but still, a lot of people participate. Seeing that this year Halloween is on a Friday I am sure a lot more people than normal will be out. Finding a niche that your business can capture and help the word spread by including as many people as you can is the key. Use what you have at your disposal to give away as prizes, include in the contests and help other to talk about you.

It’s funny that you mention chirstmas too. I got and email in my in box this morning titled “Merry Chirstmas”. Someone was already giving something away from this holiday. Contests are always a good attention grabber.

@Bruno, I agree, as long as the contest is fun and has a cool prize people will always participate. I can’t believe how long before people are advertising and marketing the holidays.

When we were kids we used to go to a neighborhood we called the “50 cent candy bar street” – so those giant candy bars do leave an impression
And if you’re giving candy out at your house, why not attach some business cards to it since a lot of parents like to check the candy before the kiddos eat it all…
At my old real estate office we have an annual pumpkin patch – kids come & get a goodie bag w/our company stuff and get to pick out a free pumpkin … you just reminded me I should check w/the office mgr to see when it is this year since I usually try to pop in and say hi to everybody!
great ideas as always josh

Great ideas I think people could apply similar marketing ideas to their blogs or website for Halloween. All of those would be good as long as it didn’t get too far off where it made people not want to come to your store.

Those ideas seems to be fun, but don’t scare the customer away with an-oh-so-scary costume..

I think the grocery store idea could turn into a big publicity score if done correctly. The tv media would love this type of story because of the visuals.

I have a friend who had fantastic sales through his website for costumes, but he was not consistent about marketing and he has to wind up his business these days.
