Marketing ideas: allowing your product to advertise itself

We have all seen those great word of mouth campaigns that pay off huge for the creator of whatever was being talked about. The latest of these was The Dark Knight starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger.

Everyone knows the cast was loaded with amazing actors but due to the untimely death of one of them, the film received a tremendous amount of publicity. The turn of events that took place shot the movie to a huge opening that will remain on the top 10 list for a very long time.

Advertising budget spent on a better product

I mention Dyson on here from time to time because I feel it went the route of product innovation vs. mass advertisement. Dyson’s sell themselves. It’s true. People are completely convinced paying a couple hundred dollars more for a Dyson is money well spent, even the people who only vacuum once a month. What is the cost break down per use at that rate I wonder?

Sacha Baron Cohen up to it again

Every time Sacha Baron Cohen starts a new project, we hear about it. He goes on crazy antics that get him thrown out of stadiums, pulls one over on celebrities, gets sued by college kids, you name it. The fact that his name is in the news only enables more and more people to learn about his upcoming projects.

Lines at Apple stores nationwide

We have all seen the news on the day or night before the launch of a new Apple product with lines that wrap around the block. Everyone gets so excited they can hardly wait one extra day to beat the madness or not be one of the first to own their shiny new ______.

Giving your product legs to walk with

The key is the ability to give your product or service legs to walk with. Some great ways to enable word of mouth to spread is to give people something to talk about. Tie your product in with a charity event or organization. Have an impromptu contest around some special occasion whether it’s a holiday or an internal celebration. Perhaps, allow a specialized coupon to leak to others. Remember when Starbucks offered friends and family of employees a free coffee and everyone forwarded the email on to everyone else in the world? I am sure it was all planned. Be creative and have fun, make people smile, think and share their experiences.

Anyone want to buy an ad network?

Entrecard for saleIt looks like our dear old friend Graham at Entrecard is listing his site for sale. Now Entrecard and the community that goes with it can be yours, well that is if you mesh well with Graham’s vision. The site is listed here on Sitepoint.

If you are in the market for an online advertising company that serves over 80 million impressions to its ads monthly, here you go. Currently the site is generating $2,000 monthly from the sales of ads on the site itself, not across the network. I don’t know how it is possible to only make $2,000 per month while severing 80,000,000+ impressions, but it is true. I am sure the next person in line with some deeper development pockets could tap into more than 80 million ad impressions across more than 20,000 blogs for a much bigger return.

There is a huge potential just waiting to get picked up by the right hands. Now that’s a marketing idea, just buy your own blog ad network.

What to do when business plans don’t go as planned

In the world of business, things happen and sentiments change. Some of these problems are easy to detect and change with just a minimal effect on the outcome. But what do you do if you are confronted with hurdles and stumbling blocks that prevent you from obtaining your goal?

Recently, an acquaintance was talking about working with a rather large development project in western North Dakota. Things have been slowly deteriorating as local opposition increased, not to mention the often chaotic market conditions. As the project moved along, it seemed like hurdle after hurdle was being thrown up in front of them whether from the city, price of commodities or labor force issues.

This is a hard situation to be in where so much time, energy and effort have been spent to see the project through. And at what point do you fold the cards and walk away from the project all together?

In the end, business is business. If the venture is going to start costing more than can be recovered down the road, the option to walk away increases. But if issues are resolved in a timely manner, the process should continue, hopefully to a decent return down the road.

At what point in the dip of business do you hold them or fold them?

Round 2 of The AdSpace Contest is beginning

We all know that from time to time I like to hold and participate in contests. I think that one of the requirements of blogging should be to have fun. This is the second round of The AdSpace Contest. The winner of this round shall receive their ad on close to 40 blogs for a whole month. Not a bad way to get some free promotion. The rules and guidelines are below. Enjoy!
