I have found that the more that I am in love with my work environment, the more I love to work. This goes beyond loving what I do, which I do. My work environment is a pleasant place that I look forward to spending time in work mode. I recently bought a Herman Miller Mirra desk chair and it arrived yesterday ;). Note: this chair is not cheap but highly recommended.
I picked mine up from InterOffice Furniture in Fargo and had to wait about 3+ weeks to receive it. That seems like a long time but was well worth the wait. I decided to go with the Herman Miller chair after trying out a few different models and brands. The place where I bought the chair from was nice enough to let me try the chairs over a day or two each in order to determine what I needed. I have had mild back issues for a few years and a good chair makes a huge improvement.
I feel completely at home in my chair and even after a long day of sitting, my back still feels like a million bucks. I came to the point about two months ago that it was well worth the money to invest in an office chair and workspace to increase my productivity. If I love my space and am comfortable while working, it becomes even easier to do what I really love, my work. I am to the point where it is motivating and exciting to get up in the morning and start on the day. I hope both your workspace and environment are to the standards of your choosing.
Up until recently, I was using a patio chair as my office chair. Now that chair was actually better than some of the other desk chairs I have had in the past. I made sure I didn’t continue using that chair a day longer than I had to though. Do you have any office space / equipment horror stories? Lets hear them.

That chair looks both comfortable and cool!
Looks like a comfortable chair! I’m actually considering replacing my office chair after I realized that I’ve had it for 9 years. Plus I’m just one of the geeks that likes new office stuff be it supplies, equipment, etc.
On another note, I do agree that your work environment means everything when it comes to productivity!

I’ll have to look into that for my husband - he has one of those funny looking ergonomic things that don’t have a back, just a seat and a spot for your knees - this doesn’t help his back issues at all. He uses the “office space” in the house.
I, on the other hand am so comfortable, my “office” is in the living room because I have to watch the kids all day. I use a tv tray for my keyboard and sit on our overstuffed leather loveseat. My monitor sits on a barstool next to the sofa, lol - But, It’s really comfortable because the back is high and I can rest my neck and back just by sitting back.

I agree. If you want to be productive, you have to be comfortable. A tired back can cut your day short, or at least what you accomplish during the day.
Several years ago when I was working on the first edition on my textbook -
“Strategic Publications: Designing For Target Publics,” my back and shoulders would be hurting after just a few hours.
I invested in a used good quality chair. I still use it today and work long hours with little back or shoulder pain.

That chair looks extremely comfy. I’d have to wait a while for one like that. Besides, mind is pretty comfy anyways and I didn’t pay a dime for it. DH found it for me. He got the crappy one that gets way too hot in the summer to the point where it’s unbearable. That’s fine though; he only uses his computer once a week and it’s in the basement where it’s cooler.
I totally know what you’re saying about an unorganized workspace. I can get by with a little clutter, but when there’s a ton it’s just a remind of all the unfinished projects you may have to get to yet.

How much does it cost you? Hundreds dollar? Yeah, with that amount of money comfort will come. I myself cannot afford to get that comfort yet. But I do really dreaming to get that comfort while I’m working at my office.
Yeah Josh you got your chair! Question… I noticed for a while on your “old” blog theme that you had a donate to help you buy the chair. Did you get any takers? Curious…
Hoooray Herman Miller Chairs! They really are fantastic for the lower back, and even lessens the natural shoulder tightness we all get after putting in the hours online. Good for you brother! Great Blog by the way.

@Fool, The chair is awesome, can’t say enough good about it.
@Justin, I notice a huge boost in productivity when the office and desk are nice and clean.
@Sheila, I like the TV tray and nightstand desk those are always fun, I actually will rock the living room floor once in a while with the wireless on the laptop.
@Nairobian, Thanks, I don’t get called cool that often so I will take it when I can. Blogging from home is both nice and a pain sometimes. I notice that I might not leave the house for a day or two every now and then. Got to make sure to get out once in a while
@Linda, Again cant say enough good things about being comfortable.
@Ben, I am glad that you are going to pick blogging back up again. I wish you all the best.
@Shireishou, I hear you on the music thing. I always listen to sky.fm pretty much all day long while I am working around the house.
@BCarter, This chair is pretty light and breathable. It has the mesh back and seat which is very nice in summer can’t speak for winter yet.
@Pandu, The chair cost about $750 with the features I selected. It could be a bit more or less depending on what options you want with it.
@Diane, I actually only got about two donations from that donation link which is why I removed it from my blog. Its all in good fun and I still got my chair.
@Niche, Herman Miller are pretty awesome although the chair I really wanted the Aero was not very comfortable to me :(, still I got a good chair that is wonderful.
I love those chairs!!! I actually did a post about them too a few months back. We came across them in a car dealership while buying a car. I wanted to negotiate for the chairs to be part of the deal.
Annies last blog post..Could this have really worked?
@Annie, That would have been awesome to have gotten on of those chairs in a car deal.
I’ll have to look at that. It’s time to replace my 5 year old Costco Samsonite chair (apparently Samsonite makes chairs).
Though lately I’ve been thinking about trying to find a used airline first class chair and use that. If I can get my hands on some old overhead bins, my office will be really awesome.

Many years ago, I temped for a day doing data input, but the company didn’t have a proper chair for me. I spent the entire day with a screaming backache, cos I had to kind of perch on the edge of an armchair and type! I must’ve been desperate for the cash, because these days, I’d have told ‘em to stuff it!
At home I work from the comfort of a wonderful black leather job that I’m very happy with, in fact, we spend so much time together, we’re getting married next month!

@Cromely, A used first class chair will still be comfortable I am sure.
@Layne, I almost quit my last job earlier than anticipated because of the poor seating, I actually let early one day because my back was on fire. I made arrangements to get a nice chair and was always a struggle to find it on my next shift.
@Helen, Thanks, I sure do feel comfortable with the chair. The one thing you can see is my inbox on the desk, it is sure pretty full. I need to deal with it. My goal is to keep if clean at the end of the day but usually ends up being the end of the week. That inbox is where all of my junk goes.
Love IT! I just started working at home about a month ago - quit the corporate scene, and love the working in the pj’s thing! My boss called, for a meeting and I told him, give me 20 minutes, I need to get a shower and do some primping!
