Well this has been a busy week for me and this blog. Yesterday I upgraded to the newest WordPress and what an event that was. I first upgraded our dog blog without any major problems and then proceeded to upgrade my own. Thankfully I waited ’til about 10 p.m. because my blog was probably down for over an hour. After I did the upgrade, everything was fine until I started reactivating the plugins. When I reactivated the Top Commenter plugin, it threw everything out of whack and I didn’t know what to do. I eventually came to the conclusion I had to revert to my backup.
Thankfully I had the necessary files to re-upload, another reason to always run a backup before you do anything major with your website. That took some time and I had to redo the upgrade yet again, this time without enabling that plugin. Later I found out that you could just delete the plug from the plugin directory and that is the equivalent of disabling it. I wish I had known that before all of the issues, but since that note was on the plugin page that I could no longer see, it got overlooked.
I also installed the Sez-Who comment plugin to participate in the newly joined Entrecard Sez-Who partnership only to find that it added a full second to my already pitiful load time (3 seconds to over 4 seconds). I did some adjusting and also disabled the NextGen Gallery plugin (another really slow plugin I wasn’t using). So now the load times are a bit better but still something to be desired. Taking input
New to the Unconventional Marketing blog this week is also a Contact page and contact form. I know you are probably asking yourself what took so long? The answer to that question is I don’t know. So please check out and use the contact form whenever you feel it is necessary, otherwise leaving comments is also welcome at anytime.
Also, two days ago was the latest in the Internet land grabs when .me domains went up for sale. I tried to buy 5 .me domains only to get emails back on 4 of them saying that someone else had registered them before me. There was so much traffic and people trying to buy the same domains all at once that many people found that they had paid only to get a rejection email a short time later. I was fortunate enough to get JOSHING.ME the newest domain to add to my list. I haven’t quite figured out what I would like to do with the domain, but for now I will probably place a blog on it. If you have any ideas on what I should do with my newest domain I am all ears, shoot me a message on my new Contact Page.
P.S. Although everyone was bashing GoDaddy for screwing everything up, I think you should remind yourself that it wasn’t GoDaddy selling the domains they were only the facilitator. I ended up talking with their customer support about the refunds and we pleasantly surprised by how knowledgeable and professional they were through the process. (If you call ask for Dew).

Just for the record, your site (this one) is loading quickly for me.

I also did an upgrade on my blog (Blogger) recently. Your backup file is really a lifesaver! I forgot a couple of “things” I had added to my template and it would have been some work recreating them if I didn’t have the backup.
I have seen really slow load times since adding Digg and SezWho…so I am in the same boat as you. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Every .me I tried to get was taken. Oh well..
@lala I am glad it is loading quickly for you and hope that I can maintain that load time or better in the future.
@Caroline I cant say enough about backup files (lifesaver is right). As for suggestions for load times I would check out this site and see where the slow loading is taking place http://tools.pingdom.com/ and try to fix or adjust the slow areas.
@Graham That is a total bummer you weren’t able to get any .me domains the lady I talked to at GoDaddy said I was pretty lucky to get joshing.me since I didnt try until about two and half hours after it opened for sale.
I have seen no benefit from the SezWho/EC Partnership so far and SezWho is laggy and buggy.

@Ben I agree that Sez-Who is laggy and buggy but I think it might be to early to tell if the partnership is good or bad yet. Maybe they will work together to provide an excellent product down the road to hard to tell.
I’ve also installed the SezWho plug-in on my 4 blogs
It hasn’t seemed to make any difference in anything except now I get these annoying approve message emails when I have it set to automatically let everything through.
I wouldn’t go to godaddy unless my life depended on it or someone was giving me a million dollars to go through all the hassle, then it could be worth it, lol. They are not even the cheapest, so I don’t know why anyone uses them.

Thanks for stopping by the other day. I hadn’t commented in a while, but I had been lurking in the background
JK, I’m not a stalker.
Anyways, congrats on the new domain let us know what you decide to do with it. I do have a couple of ideas if you’re stuck.
I have Sez-Who on all three of my blogs running WP 2.5 and none of them seem laggy to me. I won’t be converting to 2.6 for at least another week or two just to be safe about plug-ins and such.

Josh, two questions for ya:
1. Do you think it’s the template that is causing load lag? (btw, it’s not slow for me either)
and
2. Can you do a post on the value of Entrecard? I am a participant, but have really let it go in the last couple of months because I wasn’t seeing much quality traffic. A lot of drive by droppers. I have had a much greater subscriber rate, for example, just by writing more, and creating better content. That said, I haven’t really done any significant dropping for a couple of months, and I know things have improved.
Is entrecard really worth the time?
Thanks!
I love the new look, and I’m glad you got it all working now.
@vladinati, Thanks, I really like this look a lot better than the one before. Much cleaner.
