@Diane you are absolutely correct about waiting before doing anything not just with spending money (all within reason of course). Wasted time is wasted money, if time is money.

Coming at these in a roundabout fashion (started with Part III) and again all your points are more than valid. One thing I've seen over the past decade plus are people rushing into things (read "spending money like crazy") with little or no training to get the job done. The tendency (or rationale?)... the more money I throw at something, it's sure to be a winner, right? Wrong! That's like opting to be a brain surgeon with a middle school education!

Your points above should be pondered for days or even weeks before anyone launches themselves at the net :)

I am within days of moving to phase 4. I have quit my job in favor of pursuing working online full-time. I have actually done the things you suggest, although it was just coincidence that my plan lines up with what you've described here; I also have a few backup plans lined up to fall back on.

Any really specific help on how to get the word out on my blog? Any marketing guidance that you think is worth paying for? I am so skeptical now that I've been looking at all of the rehashed junk that people are rebranding and charging for....some guidance would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Point number 3 about reading other blogs and commenting and asking questions to learn is very sound advice for all new bloggers. It really is all about the networking, and the growth is amazing when you can stick with it.

How much money do you make a month?

I think the best ways are using viral marketing on social networks such as myspace and facebook as well as using craigslist links to generate targeted mailing lists.

Jeremy Schoemaker's blog accounts for only 3% of his revenue, he mainly makes money by directing high volumes of traffic to either CPC or affiliate ads using some of his radical tricks. His blog is just something small he does on the side.
