Just a little bit ago all HELL broke lose in Fargo, ND. When I say all hell broke lose, I mean it. At least in my opinion. I am not a big fan of tornadoes due to the fact there is nothing you can do other than sit your ass down somewhere and hope it doesn’t get blown away.
As the tornado sirens were blaring, radio / television announcing warnings, lightning, thunder, pounding rain and the lights flickering I am thinking to myself, “what the %$&* am I doing here and more importantly where do I go?” So I grabbed our dog Ace (That Mutt - a dog blog) and headed downstairs to our neighbor’s since he was on the first floor. As far as I know, the closer you are to the center of the earth, the better, only if I had a shovel handy.
For a few more minutes, the sirens cycled off and on as the storm system passed right over us. Everything is okay now and mostly back to normal, minus some intermittent power outages around town, as I am sure some trees were knocked down. I have never seen a tornado before and never want to. I think to myself if this were an earthquake, I would jump under a desk, door frame or better yet, outside. Hurricane, leave town. Flooding, go upstairs. But what do you do when you live in a two-story apartment building without a basement and a tornado is about to knock the building down like a Lincoln Log house? Well thankfully all is well now…but still…

I know exactly what you mean. Tornadoes suck. Hard. My family and I moved to Arkansas from southern California about 3 years ago, and the first time we heard that siren I thought the world was gonna end. Every time there’s even a threat of a tornado now, I’m watching the news until it’s over. We gotta get back out west.
The safest place to be in a tornado is underground. If you don’t have a basement, the most interior room without windows on the ground level of your home is the best.

I just got back from a Week in South Dakota at my Sis place* There were a lot of Bad Storms + Tornadoes hitting nearby*
We even drove by Little Sioux on our way to the Omaha Airport + I saw one of the Scouts who sadly was killed was from Dakota Dunes where I’ve played Golf + is close to my Sis place*
Tornadoes are very Scary to say the least*

Did you get any pictures of the storm?

@BillyWarhol Thats really sad about the scouts, what a tragedy. The same goes for the Iowa area where there is all of that flooding. The mid-west is really getting some nasty storms.
@tazdog No I didnt, at the time I was more worried about getting the hell out of my apartment, ha. A tornado didnt actually touch down here but here was a very high chance of it. I am not much of a tornado chaser.
Yep, we have been getting hammered here in Iowa. Holy crap. Tornado, ice storms and floods… Oh my.
The most recent tornado in Sioux City killed 4 kids at a boy scout camp and injured 50 others.

@BigPappa I heard about that, so tragic. I hope that you and your family are in a safe area.
I live in Saint Louis where we get severe storms every spring and fall. I have never been in a tornado though (knock on wood). What I am more frightened of are the damaging winds that come out of some of these storms.
