What does it mean to be remarkable? In the world of blogging and marketing of either yourself or your brand, you have to attract visitors or customers. To be able to attract those people without spending a dime in advertising, you have to be remarkable. People have to want to talk about you or your product (blog, etc.) and share their experience with others. By making your product worth talking about, you don’t need to have an endless advertising budget. Here is an idea that occurred to me as I was flying out to California yesterday:
Lets say you own some apartments and not all of the rooms are full. The normal way to fill those apartments would be to go out and buy some ad space in the local newspaper and possibly some airtime or bulletin board fliers. Now lets say you try a little bit more of an unconventional approach and instead of paying $500 for advertising, you spend that same money on an iPod Touch for each vacant apartment? I am willing to bet that people in a lower age demographic would jump on the opportunity.
Now here’s another idea that might work in some bigger city, metro areas or college town that at the same time would promote a green message. Take that same $500 that you were going to spend advertising your vacant apartment and this time go to the local bicycle shop and work out a deal with them. You offer your new renters a voucher to the local bike shop good for $500 towards the purchase of bicycle. The catch being they have one month to purchase the bicycle. I am sure you could get a good discount from the local shop owner due to the number of bikes that would be sold. If the renter doesn’t purchase the bike within the month you are not out any extra money. The apartment could probably even get free air time on the local news for an idea like that. Now that’s remarkable.

I like the way you think…outside of the box. With almost every market being over saturated, you need to do something different in order to get noticed.

I agree with that marketing theory. When I rented out my apartments I would offer free satellite TV and wireless internet. Worked quite well.
