Lately I have been having some issues with my hosting company, which has been affecting performance. I have been using 1and1.com for the last few months and for the most part like its features and prices
.
Yesterday our sites went down no less than 5 times for up to 10 minutes that I was aware of. I am on a shared server and who knows what the other sites were doing. Nevertheless, I am considering moving camp to a dedicated server for the few sites I am in charge of. I have looked into 1and1.com dedicated servers since I am familiar with its service and features. I really don’t have any major issues with its service other than the recent down time over the last couple of weeks.
I know that a number of my subscribers have their own dedicated servers and on a couple of different hosting sites. I would like to know who you host through, approximate rates and your overall opinion. Business in general has a lot to do with word of mouth on service and reputation. I value your opinion and would really like to know your thoughts about upgrading to a dedicated server. I am not looking to break the bank, just trying to prevent downtime and log-in issues.

Hey Josh,
I’ve been running couple dedicated servers over a year now, I’ve tried Aplus.net, which is horrible.
Now I am on Cari.Net, the great thing about them is they give your money back up to a week for 4 hours of downtime. I’ve had a lot of downtime this week but before that, it was about 99% uptime for almost a year so it’s not bad and their price is pretty good.
But I am always searching for even better, cheaper dedicated servers.
Right now, I run their highest performance server which is the 2XQuad CPU, it sure loads your site about 5 times faster than any shared server.
Do recommend you get a server at least Pentium, don’t get celeron, those things are like garbage.

I don’t have a dedicated server yet, but I do use Hostgator for my service now. If/When I switch to dedicated I would most certainly stick with them as service and up time are phenomenal.
They have 4 plans of dedicated servers, starting at $174 per month. I have no idea if that’s good or bad yet, as I’ve never priced them.

Thanks these have been helpful. I like to hear from the horses mouth how business and services really are.
We use LunarPages after having tried several other hosting companies. The best part of LunarPages is that we only have to call them when we want more space. Everything runs smooth as silk and no downtime in the last 8 months.
Good Luck!
all my blogs right now are on a shared host – with wp-super-cache setup. I’m in the process of shopping for a dedicated server or colocated server as well to power an article directory.
I just checked out cari.net – and their dual quard core machines with 4 gigs of ram are $240/month – thats VERY VERY VERY much less than anywhere I have found by about $150/month (most others were $400/month).
I’ll have to take a look at these.
Why not you try VPS or dedicated hosting? More reliable and you have more control on your own hosting. And the best part is you don\’t have to share with others. Price of course is the issues for some normal webmaster and blogger.
